Pre-driving checklist specific to motorhomes and large RVs. Use this printable checklist as a practical walk-through before, during, or after the RV task.
Engine & Mechanical
- Check engine oil level and condition (check when engine cold)
- Check coolant level and inspect hoses for leaks/swelling
- Inspect belts for cracks and proper tension
- Check tire pressure including rear duals (BLOWOUT PREVENTION)
- Test air brakes if equipped (build pressure, check for leaks)
- Check transmission fluid level and color (should be red/pink)
Interior & Storage
- Secure all items in overhead compartments (heavy items low)
- Latch and secure refrigerator contents (prevent spills)
- Close and lock all interior cabinet doors and drawers
- Secure dining table and any loose furniture
- Check that bathroom door latches properly (privacy/safety)
- Ensure emergency exits are accessible and operational
Exterior & Systems
- Retract all slide-outs completely (check position indicators)
- Secure all exterior storage compartments (check locks)
- Verify all service doors are closed and locked
- Retract leveling jacks and disconnect all utilities
- Adjust mirrors for driving position and clean if needed
- Test headlights, turn signals, brake lights, and hazards
