What this PDF covers
Complete setup checklist for RVs at campgrounds with water, electric, and sewer. Use this printable checklist as a practical walk-through before, during, or after the RV task.
Arrival & Positioning
- Check site for low branches, power lines, or hazards (DAMAGE PREVENTION)
- Position RV for easy utility access and emergency exit
- Set parking brake and level the RV (ALWAYS level side-to-side FIRST)
- Deploy stabilizing jacks or wheel chocks (check weight rating)
- Extend slide-outs only after confirming level (check clearance first)
- Unhitch trailer if applicable (safety chains last off, first on)
Utility Connections
- Take photo of electrical pedestal before connecting (documentation)
- Connect electrical with surge protector (30/50 amp - NEVER use extension cords)
- Connect fresh water hose with pressure regulator (prevents burst lines)
- Connect sewer hose with proper downward slope (gravity flow essential)
- Turn on water pump OR switch to city water (never both simultaneously)
- Test all electrical connections and GFCI outlets before use
Final Setup & System Checks
- Turn on propane and test gas detector before using appliances
- Switch refrigerator to electric mode (more efficient on hookups)
- Deploy awning only if wind under 15mph (HIGH DAMAGE RISK above)
- Set up outdoor furniture and secure loose items
- Test all systems (lights, water pressure, outlets)
- Check cell phone signal and locate campground WiFi info
